How can we help?

Everything you need to know about the Grid, KittyHome's free 3D world where students and developers learn, play and build together as cats.

Getting started

The Grid is KittyHome's free 3D world for students and developers. You explore as a cat, meet professionals, chat with AI mentor cats, play games and build your own village, right in your browser.

  1. 1. Sign in

Continue with Google, GitHub or your email (we send you a 6-digit code). It's free.

  2. 2. Pick your cat

Choose a character and a fur color. You can change it any time with the ๐ŸŽจ button.

  3. 3. Explore

Walk with the arrow keys or WASD (or the thumbstick on a phone), say hi, and look for green beams: those are professionals.

Is KittyHome free?

Yes. Exploring the Grid, chatting, the daily puzzle, AI mentors, games and building a village are all free. You can optionally buy coins to spend in the shop.

Do I need to download anything?

No. The Grid runs in your web browser on computers, tablets and phones. A recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari works best.

Can I try it without an account?

Yes. Choose "Try as a guest" to walk around for 3 minutes with a free character. Guests can't chat, use voice, talk to mentors, play duties or the arcade, or buy things, and nothing is saved. Sign in (it's free) to keep exploring.

How do I sign in?

Press Sign in and continue with Google, GitHub, or your email address. With email, we send you a 6-digit code and a sign-in button that work once, for 15 minutes. If you use the same verified email on more than one of these, it's the same KittyHome account.

What do new members get?

Every new member starts with a welcome gift of 1,000 coins, shown when you first come into the Grid. Then the ๐ŸŽฏ Getting started panel lists 7 first things to try (pick your cat, say hi to the world, chat with an ai mentor, boop a kitty, answer the daily puzzle, visit someone's village, save your own village), each worth 100 coins, with 500 more for finishing them all. Your first coin purchase also comes with +50% bonus coins, and there's a one-time starter pack.

Is there a tour?

Yes. Pip, a guide cat with a ๐Ÿšฉ flag, walks you around the Grid in about two minutes: the plaza, an AI mentor, the Founders' Wall, a music stage and a district. Follow Pip and it explains each place as you arrive (it waits if you fall behind). Start it from the welcome card or Help โ†’ Take the tour. Members get 150 coins for finishing it the first time.

How old do I need to be?

You need to be at least 13 years old to use KittyHome.

What are the green beams and gold cats?

Cats with a green beam and a PRO badge are working professionals who've joined to help. Gold cats are AI mentor cats you can chat with any time. Cats with a purple AI badge are the Grid's AI residents (Poppy, Sprocket, Luna, Biscuit, Ziggy and Maple): they wander around, say hi, give tips and boop you back.

How do I play on a phone or tablet?

Hold the thumbstick at the bottom of the screen and drag: up walks forward, the sides turn, and letting go stops. Emotes are at the top (behind the ๐Ÿ˜Š button on small screens), and the โ‹ฏ menu has villages, the arcade, voice, view options and more.

There's too much on the screen. Can I hide things?

Yes. Open View options (the ๐Ÿ‘ button) to choose what to show: name tags, chat bubbles, how many other cats, emotes, place labels, featured village boards and effects. Presets "Everything", "Balanced" and "Minimal" set them all at once. Your choices are saved in your browser.

How do I find a specific person?

Open the players list (the "online" button), pick someone and press "Walk to" to get a guide arrow, or "Visit their village".

Can I run or jump?

Not directly, but abilities like Pounce, Blink, Rocket Boost or Take Flight move you around fast. Press Q to use yours.

Chat and friends

Broadcast to the whole Grid, start a private chat with someone nearby, add more people to make a group, and send stickers.

How do I talk to everyone?

Press Enter, type your message (up to 200 characters) and send it. Broadcasts show above your cat and in the World broadcasts panel. You can send one every 5 seconds, and they're kept for 7 days.

How do I send a private message?

Walk up to someone and press C (or the "Chat" button). The first time, you need to be next to them; after that you can message them any time you're both online. Only the two of you can see it, and the last 50 messages are kept for 30 days.

Can I chat with more than one person?

Yes. When someone else asks to join a private chat, the person who started it can let them in. With three or more people it becomes a private group, and anyone can leave it any time.

What does boop do?

Walk up to another cat and press B to give them a friendly boop. Booping three different kitties is one of the daily duties.

How do I stop someone from messaging me?

Open your private chat with them and choose "Block". They can no longer message you, and any chat with them ends. If someone breaks the rules, contact support (see below).

Can I get notified about messages when I'm in another tab?

Yes. Turn on Alerts (the ๐Ÿ”” button) to get browser notifications for private messages and boops while you're away.

Voice chat

Talk out loud with cats near you, or start a private call from a chat. Voice is never recorded.

How does nearby voice work?

Press the ๐ŸŽ™ button and "Join nearby voice". Cats within about 14 meters hear you, louder the closer they are. By default you hold V (or the "Hold to talk" button) to speak; you can switch to open mic with a mute button, and pick your microphone.

Can I make a private voice call?

Yes. In a private chat, press "๐Ÿ“ž Start a voice call". The other person presses "Join the call". Either of you can mute or hang up.

Is voice recorded?

No. Voice is carried live and never recorded.

My microphone doesn't work. What can I try?

Allow microphone access when your browser asks (or in the site settings next to the address bar), check that the right microphone is picked in the voice menu, and make sure you're holding V or have open mic on.

AI mentor cats

Five gold AI mentor cats live in the Grid, each with their own specialty. Ask them about code, careers and whatever you're learning.

MentorSpecialtyWhere to find them
MochiCommunity guide and career mentorKittyHome Plaza
PixelFrontend engineeringFrontend Forest
ByteBackend and systems engineeringBackend Bay
Professor WhiskersData scienceData Dunes
NimbusDevOps and securityCloud Peaks

How do I talk to a mentor?

Sign in, walk up to a gold cat and press T (or "Talk to"). Type your question; say "bye" or walk away to end the chat. Mentors may suggest a colleague and can guide you there.

Do mentors remember me?

Yes. After a chat they keep short notes (for example that you're learning React), so they can pick up where you left off. Your chat history is kept for 30 days. You can ask us to delete their notes about you any time.

Is there a limit?

Yes, there's a daily limit on mentor messages per person to keep it fair. When you reach it, the cats are napping until the next day (UTC).

Can mentors be wrong?

Yes. They're AI and can make mistakes, so double-check anything important.

Points, coins and the shop

Points show how much you've done and never go down. Every point you earn also adds a coin, and coins are what you spend in the shop on looks and characters, and on effects you launch from the bar at the bottom of the Grid.

How do I earn coins?

Visit the Grid every day for your streak, solve the daily puzzle, finish daily duties, win arcade games, find the treasure in a treasure hunt, and place in the Weekend Cup. During Happy Hour, coins from duties and the puzzle are doubled. New members also get a welcome gift of 1,000 coins and coins for each getting-started quest.

How do invites work?

Open the You menu and choose ๐Ÿ’Œ Invite friends to get your link. When a friend makes a new account with it and finishes 3 getting-started quests, you both get 1,000 coins. You can earn invite coins for up to 10 friends every 30 days, and your friends always get theirs. On top of that, when a friend you invited has spent $50 or more on coins, you earn $10 in USDT (once per friend): save your USDT address in Invite friends and the KittyHome team sends it to you.

What's the difference between points and coins?

Points are your lifetime score: they show on your name tag and never go down. Coins are your wallet: you earn one with every point and spend them in the shop, the arcade and on your village.

How do I wear something I bought?

Open the shop (press your coin balance), find the item and press "Wear it". Press "Take it off" to remove it. Characters you unlock can be picked with the ๐ŸŽจ button.

What are promo codes?

Codes for free coins we share in events and announcements. Enter one in the "Promo code" box in the shop and press Redeem. Each code works once per person.

How do I buy coins?

Open the shop, pick a pack under "Get more coins" and press "Pay with crypto". A secure CryptumPay window opens over the Grid where you choose the coin (Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT and more) and pay. Your coins arrive as soon as the payment is confirmed, usually within a few minutes.

Do I get anything extra for buying coins?

Yes. Every pack you buy adds up, and reaching a total unlocks supporter rewards on top of your coins: $5+ Supporter (A ๐Ÿ’› Supporter badge on your name tag), $15+ Backer (The Supporter Hat (never sold in the shop)), $35+ Founder (The Founder name tag (never sold); Your name on the Founders' Wall in the plaza), $75+ Village Patron (The Golden Paw Monument for your village), $250+ Mentor Circle (A 30-minute call with the KittyHome team: code review, career chat or project feedback). They're added automatically when your payment is confirmed, and the shop shows how close you are to the next one.

I paid but my coins haven't arrived. What do I do?

Crypto payments need a few network confirmations, which can take a while when the network is busy. Keep the Grid open or check back later; coins are added automatically once the payment is confirmed. If they still haven't arrived after an hour, contact support with the time you paid.

Can I get a refund?

Coins have no cash value and purchases are final, unless the law requires otherwise or we made a mistake. Network fees are paid to the crypto network, not to us.

Daily puzzle and duties

Quick ways to earn every day. Everything resets at midnight UTC.

How do daily streaks work?

Come into the Grid on a new day (UTC) and your ๐Ÿ”ฅ streak goes up by one, with coins that grow through the week: day 1 50, day 2 75, day 3 100, day 4 150, day 5 200, day 6 300, day 7 500. Then the week starts over while your streak keeps counting. From two days on, a ๐Ÿ”ฅ shows on your name tag. Press the ๐Ÿ”ฅ chip at the top to see your streak.

What happens if I miss a day?

Your streak starts again from day 1, unless you hold a ๐ŸงŠ streak freeze: each one covers a missed day automatically. Freezes cost 300 coins in the streak panel, and you can hold up to 2.

What is the daily puzzle?

One coding question a day on www.kittyhome.org, with four choices and 60 seconds to answer. A right answer earns 10 points plus up to 10 more for answering fast.

What are daily duties?

Three small quests in the Grid each day: Boop Party (boop 3 different kitties) every day, plus two of Golden Fish Hunt, Beacon Dash, Yarn Chase and Lost Kitten. Each earns 10 to 25 points. Check the duties panel to see today's.

How do I find the hidden fish or the lost kitten?

Follow the hot and cold hints. Characters with Scan or Sniff Out (Robo and Detective) can reveal them on the radar.

Arcade and events

Play quick multiplayer games for coin pots, join the hourly treasure hunt, and compete in the Weekend Cup. Open the ๐ŸŽฎ button to see what's on.

What is the Battle Arena?

Red vs Blue team battles behind the glowing โš”๏ธ gateway near the plaza (walk up and press E, or Play โ†’ Battle Arena). Anyone can play: a 30-minute pass costs 50 coins. Choose your game (each one has its own room, you can drop in mid-round and switch any time; you're put on a team automatically): ๐ŸŒช๏ธ Sky Brawl (up to 24 cats on a floating island: every hit raises damage %, the higher it goes the further you fly, and launching enemies off the edge scores; claw combos, dashes, ultimates, meteors, lightning and a crumbling edge), ๐Ÿงถ Paw Blaster (a colosseum shoot-out: three hits knock a cat out) or โ›ฐ๏ธ Summit Rush (king of the hill: the first team to 5 seconds on top wins; yarn and shoves knock cats down the slope). Move with WASD, aim with the mouse, throw yarn (or claw, in Sky Brawl) with a click or F, jump with Space (yarn, boulders and shoves pass under you), shove with E (dash, in Sky Brawl, where R unleashes your character's ultimate), and press Q for your character's own power: the lion roars, the wizard blinks, the robot throws three at once, the pirate fires a cannonball, the knight raises a shield, and more. G casts your character's spell (a whirlwind, a heal, an orb, an EMP, a smoke bomb, an anchor hookโ€ฆ). Characters grow as you play: every round gives the character you played XP (more for winning, the MVP and knockouts), and each level unlocks an upgrade you buy with coins (โฌ†๏ธ in the arena: faster powers, harder hits, stronger spells, tougher fur, and a legend's aura). Shop items you wear help a little in battle too: hats speed up your power, faces your spell, trails make you faster, name tags tougher (rarer items help more). Battle items from the shop (โš”๏ธ Battle tab) go on keys 1โ€“6: Catnip Tonic, Zoomies, Bubble Shield, Hairball Bomb, Freeze Ball and Power Cell, up to 2 of each per round; they're only used up when you use them. Hold Tab for the scoreboard. AI players ๐Ÿค– fill the teams up to at least 4 a side, so a battle starts as soon as you walk in. Every winner gets 15 points and coins, and the MVP 10 more.

How does the arcade work?

Open a lobby or join one; 2 to 8 players each pay the entry fee into a pot. The winner takes the pot (with 4 or more players, second place gets a share). If nobody scores, everyone gets their coins back. There's also a free practice mode.

What is the treasure hunt?

Every hour a treasure chest is hidden in the Grid for 15 minutes. Buy a map for hot and cold hints; the first map holder to reach the chest wins the pot and the Treasure Hunter Hat. If nobody finds it, map buyers get their coins back.

What is Happy Hour?

One hour every day when coins from duties and the daily puzzle are doubled and arcade pots get a bonus. The Events tab shows when it's on.

What is Battle Night?

One hour every day when the Battle Arena is free to enter and every battle pays double coins and XP. The Grid announces it 10 minutes before, and the Events tab and the arena gateway show when it's on. It's the best time to find other people to battle!

What is the Weekend Cup?

Every Saturday and Sunday (UTC), public arcade games earn cup points: 3 for a win and 1 for second place. The top three win 500, 250 and 100 coins plus the Champion Tag. Standings are in the Events tab.

Asking for help & the Knowledge Center

Stuck on something? Ask, and a helpbot carries your question around its topic village until someone answers. Solved questions are verified by professionals and kept in the Knowledge Center for everyone.

How do I ask a question?

Choose ๐Ÿ™‹ Ask for help (in the Play menu, in a topic village, or in the Knowledge Center). Give it a title, pick a topic (one is suggested), and describe the problem. You can paste code in code blocks: the indentation is kept exactly. Before you post, the Knowledge Center is searched for answers that already exist.

What is a helpbot?

A little cat that carries your question around its topic village (Career, Frontend, Backend, Data & AI, DevOps). Anyone who meets it can open your question and answer. A topic village has at most 10 helpbots out at once; when it's full, new questions wait in line (and can still be answered from the Help Desk). Each helpbot looks different, so you can tell them apart.

What happens when my question is answered?

You're told about every answer and comment. Mark the useful ones ๐Ÿ‘ helpful and accept the one that solves it: your helpbot's job is done and it leaves the village. The thread is summarized into a Knowledge Center entry, and a professional checks it before it's published. If something's missing, they send it back with a note, and your question opens again.

What is the Knowledge Center?

Every solved and verified question, open to everyone. Ask the Librarian (a search bot) about anything: it finds the entries that match and answers only from them, with its sources. Each entry credits who asked, who answered and the professional who verified it.

What do I get for helping?

Points and coins for answering (the first 5 answers a day), 25 points when your answer is accepted and 25 more when it's verified, and reputation. Reputation gives you a rank (๐ŸŒฑ Learner, ๐Ÿค Helper, ๐Ÿง  Expert, ๐Ÿฆ‰ Sage) with a name tag you can't buy. Every Monday, last week's top 3 helpers win 500, 250 and 100 coins. And each verified entry you helped create adds a floor to the Knowledge Tower in your village.

What is the Knowledge Tower?

A tower behind your village that's built from your questions and answers: foundation stones for what you've asked and answered, a floor for every Knowledge Center entry you helped create (colored by topic, with lit windows when yours was the accepted answer), and a top that shows your rank. Visitors can click it to see everything you've contributed.

Villages

Every member can build their own little 3D village: a home page with your story, projects, photos and links that anyone can visit at a link of its own.

How do I build my village?

Open Villages (the ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ button) and choose "My village", then press "Build". Add a notice board, photo frames, project stalls, link posts and banners for free, decorate with trees, fountains, ponds and more, and press Save. Bigger plots, decorations and atmospheres cost coins.

How do people find my village?

Share its link (the "Share" button): community.kittyhome.org/v/ followed by your username. Villages also appear in the village browser by name, username or tag, under Most loved, Most visited and Recently built.

What can visitors do?

Walk around, read your boards and projects, leave a message in your guestbook, and like your village. You can remove guestbook messages from your own village.

How do I feature my village in the Grid?

In your village settings, choose "Feature my village" to book a board on the Grid's outer fence for 1 to 7 days. Players walk up to it and press E to visit. Featured villages also show first in search.

What pictures can I upload?

PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF pictures up to 1.5 MB each, up to 30 in total. Only upload pictures you have the right to share.

Do the AI mentors have villages?

Yes. Each mentor has a village with tips on their specialty, like Mochi's Sunny Library and Byte's Server Harbor. Find them under AI mentors' villages.

Safety and rules

KittyHome is a friendly place to learn. Be kind, keep personal information private, and help us keep it safe.

What isn't allowed?

Harassment, threats, bullying or impersonation; sharing someone's private information; sexual, hateful, violent or illegal content; spam, scams and malware; cheating, bots or getting into other people's accounts; and using the AI features to make harmful or deceptive content.

How do I report someone or something?

In the Grid, use "Support" (the โ“ button) and choose a category, with as much detail as you can. In villages, use "Report" on a village, an item or a guestbook message. Our moderators can remove messages, mute or suspend accounts, and close villages.

Should I share personal details?

No. Never share passwords, your address, phone number or other private details in chats. KittyHome staff will never ask for your password.

Your account and privacy

Your email is never shown to other players. You control your emails, and you can ask us to delete your data any time.

What emails will KittyHome send me?

A welcome email when you join, occasional updates about new features, and a few helpful reminders: when your streak is about to end, a nudge in your first days, how many people visited your village that week, and a note if you've been away for a while. Never more than one reminder a day.

How do I stop KittyHome emails?

Press "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of any email; it takes one click, and you can subscribe again from the same page.

How do I delete my account?

Email hello@kittyhome.org from the address on your account and we'll delete it and its data within 30 days. You can also ask us to delete only what the AI mentors remember about you.

Who can see my email address?

Only you, our admins and our support team. Other players never see it.

I can't sign in. What can I do?

Try another way to sign in with the same verified email (Google, GitHub or an email code; they all open the same account). If you use an email code, check your spam folder and ask for a new code if it has expired. Still stuck? Email hello@kittyhome.org.

Still need help?

In the Grid, press Support (the โ“ button) to send us a message: a bug, a question about your account, or feedback. We reply to the email on your account. You can also email hello@kittyhome.org.
